Key Issues for Lower Manhattan

Long a beacon of opportunity, Lower Manhattan is ready for policies that support people, families, and business. We have the resources to start delivering world-class services + quality of life today.

Quality of Life

Public Safety

Accountability is the highest form of compassion. Without it we deny each other the feedback needed to change and grow. I support holding everyone to equal standards in all public spaces and transit + building effective services to help those are struggling. It's not one or the other. It's both.

Homeless Services

Our homeless services and shelter programs are unfocused. They treat all people experiencing homelessness the same. This fails to provide shelter to the ones who would benefit from it and allow those who are a danger to themselves and others to remain on the streets. This is a lose lose. We need define and categorize the root causes of homelessness and offer targeted programs for each. The one size fits all approach is not working.

Education

We invest the most money per student in the country. We have the resources to build an education system that supports students of every ability and gives great pay to teachers. We can have programs that push our top students to new heights + programs that build strong foundations. It's not one or the other.

Empty Storefronts

Lower Manhattan is filled with empty storefronts. This is a problem. Vibrant neighborhoods and safe streets come from abundant businesses and job opportunities. We need to identify the root cause and partner with real estate, business, entrepreneurs, artists, etc to bring these spaces back to life.

Affordability + Opportunity

In recent decades, our government has taken a "limit + control" approach. This has resulted in exploding costs due to self-created scarcity. I support a different approach I'm calling "partner + grow". All people and businesses deserve the opportunity to pursue their interests and push their fields forward. Regardless of what they do. Artists, chefs, teachers, techies, developers, architects should all be supported.

Government is a humble partner to help us succeed and grow.

World Class Services

Our city government has the most resources in the country. An annual budget of $100+ Billion dollars. A work force of over 300,000 civil servants. We have the resources, now we need our leaders to execute.

Law-makers must partner with city agencies not micro-manage them

Housing Courts + Tenant Protections

We have the strongest tenant protections in the country. What we don't have is a world-class housing court.

Good people and good landlords unneccesarily suffer from a housing system that takes months and sometimes years to handle claims that should take just days.

I'm committed to helping our housing courts execute at a high-level. The Jets should be the only NY team underperforming.
